2019 Toyota Avalon Vs 2019 Lexus Es 350
2019 Lexus ES vs. Toyota Avalon
The 2019 Lexus ES is turning heads, and for good reason. There are luxury sedans like the ES and there are others, like the Toyota Avalon, trying to imitate Lexus. Here's a look at how Lexus continues to set the pace in the luxury sedan market.
Luxury & Convenience

When you hear of brands like Lexus you inherently think luxury. That's because Lexus has been producing luxury vehicles for decades. When you hear Toyota, you aren't pulled into that same luxury orbit. It isn't that the Toyota Avalon isn't a good vehicle, it's simply because it doesn't go for luxury with the same passion.
- Cars like the Lexus ES looks the part, with sculpted contours that speak to Lexus' power and refinement. The newly designed Avalon looks boxy and dated. The ES also has an available panoramic glass roof, while the Avalon's moon roof offers a poor imitation.
- The ES F Sport actually looks like it could hit the track, while the SLE feels like a half-hearted attempt at sportiness. Specially designed sport seats and interior touches make the ES F Sport feel like a luxury sports car.
- The ES 350 Luxury takes elegance and sophistication seriously. The Avalon Limited feels like a great fleet car for your sales team.
- The ES 350 Ultra Luxury raises the bar on all luxury sedans. The Avalon Touring only appears interested in raising the price tag.
Performance
The ES is built on an all-new platform , taking signature elements from the LS, resulting in a wider stance, and sleeker, distinctly coupe-like look. Lexus has improved the design further by adding the world's first swing-valve shock absorber for an even smoother ride.
To counter its boxier design, the Avalon offers grille vents to improve upon drag coefficient, and you can add a rear spoiler and rear diffuser to help as well. But when you're selling reducing drag, you're really just dragging everyone down.
Both the Lexus ES and Toyota Avalon work the same V-6 engine with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The numbers are very similar in horsepower, fuel efficiency, and torque, but the ES gives you more control over your ride with standard paddle shifters on every model. The Avalon doesn't.
Safety & Security
The Lexus Safety System+ 2.0 is the most comprehensive suite of safety systems ever installed in a Lexus, and comes standard on all ES models. The suite includes:
- Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection
- Lane Tracing Assist
- Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist
- Road Sign Assist
- All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
- Intelligent High Beams
- Panoramic View Monitor
- 10 Air Bag System
- Vehicle Stability Control
- Adaptive Front Lighting System
The Avalon includes some version of the above safety features standard on the Touring model, yet not all, and not on every model.
Sometimes it's all in the name. The two vehicles are only separated by a few thousand dollars at each level, but what that money purchases is simply amazing. Add in Lexus' standard interior comfort design versus the Avalon's upgradable options and the choice is clear. The Lexus ES should be your next luxury sedan .
